OVERVIEW
What is IMPACT2020
BACKGROUND
The IMPACT2020 Conference is an annual event organised by the Hospitality and Tourism Research Centre (HTRC) of the School of Hotel and Tourism Management (SHTM) at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU).
THEME: CRISIS MANAGEMENT AND RECOVERY STRATEGIES
The global hospitality and tourism industry has been facing considerable challenges due to geopolitical and socio-economic uncertainties and global health crises, such as the US-China trade war, Brexit, social unrest around the world and the COVID-19 pandemic. These challenges have affected the confidence of international tourists to and from the crisis affected regions/countries.
The impact of these on-going crises on the hospitality and tourism businesses have attracted considerable attention from practitioners, policy-makers and academics. Jointly organised by the HTRC and STR, the inaugural IMPACT2020 is committed to bridging the gap between academia and industry practice and thereby exerting a positive impact on hospitality and tourism communities. Taking the theme of “Crisis Management and Recovery Strategies”, this year’s conference will be held on 30 October at Hotel ICON in Hong Kong. The conference will be held both offline and online.
AIM OF THE CONFERENCE
This conference aims to bring industry executives, government officials and academics together to discuss crisis management and recovery strategies to counter the negative impacts of geopolitical and socio-economic crises and uncertainties on world tourism in general and Hong Kong’s visitor economy in particular.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND AND WHY?
IMPACT2020 will feature a number of renowned industry and academic speakers with considerable experiences in crisis management practice and research. Whereas many other conferences target practitioners and academics separately, IMPACT2020 will bring industry executives and academics together to discuss and debate crisis management from different perspectives to develop the best recovering strategies for crisis-hit sectors of the hospitality and tourism industry. The participants will share their views on the latest industry trends and prospects and propose solutions to the problems currently faced by the industry.
